Judge Residence

The Challenge:
The location of this garden is very important. It is located to the right of the homes front door. The customer hired us to transform this established, outdated garden into a welcoming, colorful garden with continuous bloom and a variety of evergreens for winter interest. The location is also difficult since the back half of the garden is in partial shade and the front receives full sun.

The Solution:
We evaluated the existing shrubs, perennials and soil. We determined that new soil was required and a variety of shrubs could remain. All perennials had to be replaced. We developed a design and plant list which incorporated evergreens, flowering shrubs and perennials for both shade and full sun. Our goal was to provide a low maintenance, colorful and interesting garden for all seasons.
The Details:
We removed unwanted shrubs, pruned and shaped remaining. We removed 4" of soil and replaced it with organic compost to enhance the remaining soil and help the existing shrubs to thrive. We incorporated needle evergreens and flowering deciduous shrubs to compliment broadleaf evergreens. We selected a complimentary group of part shade and full sun perennials in order to brighten the shade areas and provide bold color to the sunny area of the garden. As you can see the results provide a pleasing yet interesting aspect to this garden.
